Today is the 100th anniversary of our national song. Instead of celebrations, controversies are raging throughout the country. The issue is whether the singing of the song should be made mandatory for everyone, after muslims have expressed their reservations regarding the country being equated to God. Though I really like this song but I don't think that forcing anyone to sing this song is going to do any good for our country or the song itself. The singing of this song doesn't prove anyone's patriotism towards the country. The song is a legend in itself and it does not deserve unnecessary controversies.
The government should not have passed a circular in the first place of making the singing mandatory. Though the harm is done we should not take an ultra-nationalist view over the controversy. We all are son of Mother India whether we accept it or not and our soul knows that we will always be in debt to our mother land. Whether we are Hindu or Muslim, doesn't matter, because whosoever is Indian must be Indian from heart. In these tough times where the ugly head of terrorism keeps propping up from everywhere we need to be tolerant. We need to understand that hatred breeds hatred. Force can make people bend but it will never make people accept.
Hopefully the politicians will understand all this and stop unnecessary fanning of religious sentiments. It is better if they divert their attention to more important problems our country is presently facing like floods, farmers committing suicide, corruption, lack of infrastructure, education and famines.
Let the true essence of Vande Mataram be known to every Indian, instead of blindly singing the song without even an iota of respect for either the song or the nation.
Vande Mataram!
